Here are a few variations of what could possibly be my web portfolio. The designs are only very basic and are the first major part of the design process. Any feedback or comments are welcome.
#1 - Simple and effective
Here I have chosen to make it as simple as possible in an attempt to make the work speak for itself.
#2 - Simple but with colour
Here I have again tried to keep the design relativly simple but this time have added a bit of colour to just liven it up a bit.
#3 - Something a bit different
as an alternative I tried to just design something that I would normally not, just something a bit wacky and different.

I think with all your designs you need to swap the interior page with the homepage. You need to make sure you show just work with minimal text on the homepage if you really want to make use of the first impact, because people just won't read the text.
The first design is probably my favourite. If you made the bar running across the middle a bit less black (maybe off-black) and removed the text on the homepage and swapped it for images of your work you would have a nice design there.
I agree and disagree with Craigs comments.
I agree with the fact that you need some images on the homepage but I think in the first idea the black should stay.
As for the second one I think that there is far too much text on the first page and would need more images of your work. I don't really like the orange background colour to be honest.
I do like idea 3 but I'm not sure if that orange is the best colour for the job. Again you need a little less text and more work on the homepage.
I think that the first is probably the best idea so far but if the colour changed number 3 might be a good idea as well.
My favourite is number 3 as its stylish and, as you say, a bit different. Although the designs of the other two are strong pieces of work I just think they're a bit too corporate looking for my taste.
It is just a matter of taste though so I imagine everyone will advise you differently. to summarise, they are all good but 3 is my favourite.
The third idea
The header effect really looks cool, although I would just stick to Mirhad, as viewers already know what site they are currently on. I also dislike the yellow. Maybe you could have it white or a different colour instead?
The homepage really could do with some examples of your work, or small thumbnails.
First idea
I dislike the large black box with the white content. I think text should almost always be on a light coloured background. Maybe just have the black as a seperation between the text and the links?
I also feel that the text length is slightly too long as well. You could half this text and make room for thumbnails of your work.
I like both 1 and 3.
No.1 I agree with Craig by moving the images onto the home page it will create a more powerful feel.
I'll let you decide to use black or grey?
No.3 is interesting and has a more crafted arty feel to it. Like Chris says I would change the colour to something other than the one you have.
I think you have to decide which look to go for the corporate feel or a more creative arty one.
The decision is yours...
I think the first idea is the one to develop further. Its simplicity will make it both easy to make and easy to use - something which should become apparent when you do you usability testing.
I think you will have to decide how the site will work on bigger monitors - will you go for a fixed width, or a liquid one? And how will this effect the black area? These are things you will have to consider with the next iterations.
Cheers for you comments guys, I think that idea one is the one that i will be developing further. Next time i will experiment with a few different shades for the bar at the back and even try different variations of the content layout.
